Millennium Anniversary of Eparchy of Turov

On September 18, 2005 Belarus Post will issue the stamp dedicated to the Millennium Anniversary of Turov Eparchy.
Designer: Sergey Sarkisov. Printing: offset. Colour: full colour (3 paints). Paper: chalk surfaced. Perforation: comb 13¾: 13½. Size of the stamp: 26x37 mm. Sheet composition: 16 (4x4) stamps. Print quantity: 70.000.
There are elements of protection on the stamp.
Historical reference. The bishop pulpit of Turov was founded in 1005 and it is the second of the most ancient Orthodox Eparchies in Belarus. As it was in Polotsk, Turov bishops were sent to the pulpit by Kiev metropolitans being in canonical subordination to the Patriarch of Constantinople. There were 23 bishops at Turov pulpit for the period from XII to XVI centuries. Two of them, bishop Cyril II and his successor bishop Lavrenti, got the church glorification and were canonized. Bishop Cyril of Turov is respected by inhabitants of Turov town especially deeply.
